It all started back in about 1962 for Dewey McCreary. This is when he purchased his first motorcycle shop located in Kansas City, MO.In 1969, St. Joe Harley-Davidson was located on 9th Street in downtown St. Joe, MO.
We outgrew that building and really wanted a better location by the interstate, so in 2000 we moved to our new "Super Store" which is where we are now located.
A Little History
In 1963, Dewey McCreary took a management job - not in St. Joe, but at Harley-Davidson of Kansas City, owned by Bob Garver! He stayed there for several years, with his wife Susie working as the secretary. He fell in love with motorsports such as flat track racing, hillclimbing, and ultimately setting "5 WORLD RECORDS" on the Drag strip!
So, in 1969, they wanted their own Harley-Davidson store and they looked toward Springfield or St. Joseph, MO. They finally elected to move to St. Joe, where they opened the doors of the downtown store at 402 S. 9th Street. The business was VERY hard during most of those years, but they stuck it out. In 1981 Clay, their youngest son, came to work for the business as the grunt, then went to service school in 1983 to be a certified technician. He eventually moved to parts and then management in later years. In 1989, Mick, their other son, came to work in the family business as the need for more help grew. Mick worked in parts and bike sales, and eventually landed in management as well.
Today the business has grown to the next level. The McCrearys designed and built the new 17,500 sq. foot dealership at 4020 S. 169 Hwy., off I-29 Hwy. They offer the same down home attention as they have for 31 years! Please stop by and enjoy the personal touch that only the McCreary family's Harley-Davidson store can provide!
